Steve Blank, autor do The Startup Owner’s Manual, descreve ao longo do seu livro uma serie de principios que todo empreendedor deveria seguir. A ideia principal por trás deles é que, a pesar do que se acredita e é ensinado em muitas escolas de negócios, uma startup (uma organização desenhada para oferecer um produto ou serviço novo em condições de extrema incerteza) não pode ser gerida do mesmo jeito que uma companhia já existente. O motivo é que, como a definição indica, numa startup quase tudo (mercado alvo, características adequadas do produto ou serviço oferecido, preço, etc.) é desconhecido, entanto que numa companhia quase tudo é dado. Por isto a função principal de uma startup é a de procurar (tudo o anterior) e não a de executar, e a forma de pensar, as estratégias, a rapidez de atuação e até a forma de se organizar devem ser diferentes. Sem mais espera aqui estão os principios em português para você:
- Não existem fatos dentro do seu prédio, então saia fora.
- Combine o desenvolvimento de clientes com o desenvolvimento de produto
- O fracaso é uma parte integral da procura pelo seu modelo de negócio
- Se você tem medo de fracassar está destinado a fazê-lo
- As iterações e os giros estão dirigidos pelo conhecimento profundo
- Valide suas hipóteses mediante experimentos
- O sucesso começa com seus investidores e co-fundadores comprando a sua ideia
- Nenhum plano de negócios sobrevive ao primeiro contato com clientes
- Nem todas as startups são iguais
- As métricas de uma startup são diferentes das métricas das empresas que já existem
- Concordem (você e sua equipe) no tipo de mercado alvo – isso muda tudo
- Tomada de decisões rápida e sem medo, tempo de ciclo, velocidade e ritmo
- Se você não faz por paixão, está morto no dia em que abrir as portas
- Os títulos e funções numa startup são muito diferentes dos de uma companhia
- Preserve o dinheiro enquanto está procurando. Depois de encontrar, gaste
- Comunique e compartilhe aprendizado
- As startups precisam de conforto com o caos e a incerteza
