Hoje vou lhe contar duas histórias. Uma grega e uma americana. Uma de 8 séculos antes de Cristo e outra bem mais próxima aos dias de hoje.
A primeira história aconteceu na viagem de Odisseu. Durante um trecho de sua viagem de volta para Ítaca, após a guerra de Troia, o navio de Odisseu estava prestes a passar perto da ilha das sereias.
As sereias eram lindas e cantavam uma música muito doce. Tão doce que quem ouvia era imediatamente atraído por ela. Mas com seu canto, as sereias atraiam todos os tripulantes dos navios que passavam perto da ilha, fazendo-os colidir com os rochedos e afundar.
Odisseu queria muito ouvir aquele canto, e para evitar ser atraído às rochas, colocou cera nos ouvidos de seus marinheiros e amarrou-se ao mastro do navio. Assim, deu a ordem aos seus marinheiros de soltarem ele somente depois de ter deixado a ilha para atrás.
Quando Odisseu escutou aquele canto tão belo e doce, embora soubesse que o atrairia para uma morte certa, ele quase enlouqueceu de desejo de ir até lá. Foi somente o fato de estar fortemente amarrado o que o impediu de morrer.
A segunda história aconteceu na Bahia de Monterrey, na California, quando as sardinhas desapareceram de sua águas tradicionais. Imediatamente os traders começaram a especular com as sardinhas, fazendo o preço da lata disparar.
Certo dia, um comprador decidiu se dar o luxo de abrir uma dessas caríssimas latas para degustar suas sardinhas. Ficou doente na hora. Imediatamente foi reclamar com o vendedor da lata e disse: você me vendeu sardinhas em mal estado, e fiquei doente ao comê-las!
Mas o vendedor respondeu: “você não entendeu, estas não são sardinhas para comer, são sardinhas para trading!”
Igual a beleza dos cantos de sereia atraia os marinheiros, a possibilidade de ficar rico ou viver com especulação na bolsa no curto prazo atrai muitas pessoas. É o chamado trading intradia.
Com a tecnologia que temos hoje, comprar e vender ações, opções ou futuros é muito fácil e barato. E você pode achar inúmeros cursos de trading relativamente baratos (ou até de graça) que prometem lhe ensinar como ficar rico rápidamente.
Mas a realidade que há por trás dessa aparente facilidade é que 90% das pessoas que abrem uma conta numa corretora de trading acabam perdendo dinheiro.
Especular com o preço de uma ação no curto prazo, sem nenhuma análise dos fundamentos da empresa que está por trás daquela ação, é a mesma coisa que especular com sardinhas sem sequer se preocupar de experimentá-las. Você pode ficar rico, mas o mais provável é que fique doente.
A especulação de curto prazo é, em definitiva, um jogo de soma zero. Isso significa que, para que você ganhe, alguém tem que perder. Mas quem sempre ganha é a corretora, que embolsa as comissões das operações de quem ganha e de quem perde.
Qual a solução? Jogue outro jogo! Em vez de tentar ser melhor em um jogo com muitas chances de perder, jogue um jogo onde as chances de ganhar sejam maiores do que as chances de perder. Que jogo é esse?
Em vez de especular, invista em negócios a longo prazo: coloque seu dinheiro em empresas de qualidade, administradas por pessoas honestas e que você possa adquirir a preços razoáveis. É mais lento, menos sexy e requer paciência e disciplina, mas você irá mais longe e com menos risco. Lembre da definição de Benjamin Graham:
Uma operação de investimento é aquela que, após uma análise minuciosa, promete segurança do principal e um retorno adequado. As operações que não atendem a esses requisitos são especulativas.
